SONGS THAT SHOULD BE METALCORE COVERS, VOL. III
Round three of tracks that lend themselves perfectly to metalcore (and metalcore-adjacent) covers!
Dizzee Rascal-"Fix Up, Look Sharp"
Dizzee Rascal’s approach to the track is of a man barely keeping the lid on going "Bonkers." Dumb joke aside, it’s aggressive, it’s confrontational, and given both their style and what they’ve done in experimenting with incorporating phonk and hip-hop into their sound, I feel like Thrown would be a perfect candidate to put their spin on this track.
Capleton-"Real Hot"
"Translating" this one, I have often thought it would make an intriguing cover to take what Volumes did incorporating rap into their track "On Her Mind" featuring Pouya, but dancehall-ified, and mixed with American Me’s "Anti Life Equation."
Pointer Sisters-"Dare Me"
First of all, it already has a breakdown in it. Secondly, the clever lyrical twist on a "come and get me, baby"-type song has this in-your-face, confrontational style to it that feels like Scott Vogel’s attempt at a love song: "I've got a chip on my shoulder with your name on it / Knock it off / So don't just stand there foolin' if you don't want it / Knock it off / I say you're either a lover or you are a liar / So don't you push too hard / You're playin' with fire." Further, you’ve also got the boxing gym setting and set-up for the music video. All that’s missing is an intrepid band to put the pieces together and run with it. While obviously not metalcore, having mentioned Vogel, I would actually like to hear what Terror covering this song would sound like. If we stay in the metalcore realm, August Burns Red has a penchant for great covers, ranging from Saves the Day to Britney Spears, and I would be interested to hear what they could do with this song.
The Immortals-"Techno Syndrome (Mortal Kombat)"
This selection along with our next one might be the two ultimate no brainers in our series. Regarding this track, whether it’s the over-the-top ultra-violence of the Mortal Kombat franchise itself or the 90s techno that’s one hundred percent in the band’s wheelhouse, "Techno Syndrome (Mortal Kombat)" is just begging to be covered by Electric Callboy.
Righeira-"Vamos a la Playa"
And tell me everything about this one, too, doesn’t just scream Electric Callboy!
