TWIN MILL

Q1. For readers who might not be familiar with you, would you please provide some background on the band—where you’re from, when you formed, etc.?

We are Twin Mill, a band from Heilbronn, a city in southern Germany near Stuttgart. Formed in 2022, we are four close friends who have been active in the regional music scene for many years. Before coming together as Twin Mill, we were involved in various projects, mainly exploring the sounds of Melodic Hardcore and Post-Hardcore. With this band, we’re bringing our collective experience and passion for music into a fresh new chapter.

Q2. Who are some of the band’s primary influences?

Our musical influences are diverse, as each of our four band members comes from a different musical background. Naturally, we draw inspiration from the classic grunge and alternative rock bands of the ’90s such as Nirvana or Alice in Chains. At the same time, we are strongly influenced by newer artists from the alternative, HC and emo scenes—especially bands from Run For Cover Records, like Title Fight, Basement, and Citizen. Additionally, 2000s nu-metal and post-grunge bands such as Deftones or Puddle of Mudd have played a role in shaping our sound.

In the end, our goal is to create a modern alternative rock sound—something that feels fresh and contemporary but still carries nostalgic parallels to the music of the ’90s and 2000s. Each of us brings our own musical influences into the band, and I guess it’s this blend that makes our style unique.

Q3. Talk to us about the new single “Rain Head.” What can listeners expect, and what subject matter does the song explore?

Compared to the songs on our first EP, Rain Head is a bit heavier and darker, yet at the same time, it’s actually somewhat catchier and more straightforward in its structure.

For this track, we focused on building everything around one central guitar riff, keeping it as the song’s foundation. However, beyond that, it remains a signature Twin Mill song. Our goal is always to create memorable, engaging riffs—ones that stick with the listener but never feel repetitive or predictable.

“Rain Head” describes the feeling of going through life with a head full of rain - a metaphor for emotional heaviness, isolation and disorientation. The song tells of a state in which one feels lost in the midst of new experiences and encounters, overwhelmed by the uncertainty of where the path should lead. But despite this inner turmoil, there is a fixed point that provides stability: a place, a connection or something familiar that gives comfort and stability. “Rain Head” captures the simultaneity of being lost and the longing to return to oneself - a journey through rain and light.

Q4. What are the band’s upcoming plans?

Our main focus right now is to release the remaining singles we recorded last year. We want to put out new music consistently while keeping the momentum going.

Of course, we’re also eager to play as many shows as possible, and maybe even land a festival slot. We already have a few things lined up and can’t wait to bring our new songs to the stage.

Q5. Who are some other bands on the scene we should be paying attention to?

There are definitely some great bands in the scene that people should keep an eye on. Liotta Seoul, Poppy Wizard, Hippie Trim, Split Chain, Minus Youth, Defiance HC, Sliver and Blind Ambition - all of them are making waves and absolutely deserve attention!

Q6. Any parting words for our readers?

Most importantly—support small bands. Go to shows, buy their merch, and share their music. It’s already tough enough for smaller bands to find their footing in the alternative music scene in Germany, so every bit of support makes a difference.

Get involved, support your local scene, and show up for other bands. Community is everything, especially in today’s music landscape.

And one more thing—go vote! If this interview comes out before the election, don’t waste your chance to make a difference. Our country is facing major decisions, so make sure your voice is heard.
